OurMission: Grounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ, our faith community is committed to loving God and serving humanity.
The members of David's UCC participate in a life of worship, mission projects, Christian education, and fellowship activities. We actively support the local food bank and other outreach programs in the local community, and are involved with numerous mission projects in the global community as well. We continue to explore new ways in which we can match our gifts and abilities to the needs of others. Through discipleship, study, stewardship, and active service, we seek to promote the Kingdom of God in our neighborhood and in the world.
At David's UCC, we believe that the message of the grace of God revealed in Jesus Christ is for everyone. A rural faith community located in the Line Mountain region of central Pennsylvania, the people of David's are known for their big heart and wonderful Pennsylvania Dutch hospitality.
Join us for worship, fellowship, study, and service, as together we seek to serve God by serving others.

Crocodile Dock Vacation Bible School Comes to David's - Have YOU Registered Yet???
This year's VBS program is Crocodile Dock, a bayou-based program complete with friendly alligators and crocodiles! This year's program will be held in a one-day format, on Saturday, July 25, from 9am-3pm, including a special session from 9-11am for toddlers. Please note that this will be held in Urban, at the pavilion adjacent to St. Paul's Urban.
What Happens at the Crocodile Dock?
There are five Bible Points that are explained in fun ways at a child's level followed by a challenge exercise. The challenge exercise is a way to live out the Bible point at home with some good action.
The Five Bible Points for Power Lab are:
#1: God is with us. God speaks to Moses in a burning bush. (Exodus 3:1-4:17)
#2: God is powerful. God sends the plagues on Egypt. (Exodus 7:1-10:29)
#3: God does what he says he'll do. God spares the Israelites at Passover. (Exodus 11:1-12:42)
#4: God gives us life. Jesus dies and comes back to life. (Matthew 27:11-28:10)
#5: God cares for us. The Israelites cross the Red Sea. (Exodus 14:1-15:21)
The kids learn these points by rotating through different stations during the day, including the Dockside Drive-In, Snack Shack, Crawfish Craft & Missions, Chadder's Bayou, etc. They'll spend time at each station. At Crocodile Dock, kids will be on the lookout for God Sightings. Kids will think of places and situations where they might see God in action?or ways they can be a God Sighting!
NOTE: Since the program will be held outside at the pavilion adjacent to St. Paul's URBAN, please put sunscreen on your child. Also, children should wear athletic shoes so that they may participate fully in games.
Please complete the registration form (see registration form in this newsletter - additional forms available in church) - bring your kids, your grandchildren, your neighbors' kids - ALL are welcome. If you have questions, or to volunteer, please contact Chris Leader.
Donations for Elizabethville Clothing Closet
Don't forget that we have an ongoing request from the Elizabethville Clothing Closet for gently-worn/almost new clothing for babies and children. Please leave your donations in the collection box in the back of church.
Upcoming Events
Social Committee Update
In June, please note that we are changing the date for the All-American Family Picnic from June 20 to June 27. This will be held behind the church on Saturday, June 27, beginning at 5pm - hot dogs, hamburgers, games, etc.
For the fall, we are working on a Hebe Idol community talent night for Sunday afternoon, September 27. This event is open to the entire community, and will benefit the Line Mountain Food Bank. Admission will be $3/person OR bring a non-perishable food item. Light refreshments will be served during intermission. Contact your friends and fans, and get ready with your voices, your instruments, or whatever talent you have! More details to come!
And in October, we are hoping to have an authentic German Oktoberfest meal and entertainment. Stay tuned!
Christmas in July Hymnsing
There are so many wonderful Christmas carols, that we never get to sing them all at Christmastime. On July 5, we will have a "Christmas in July" hymnsing. We will sing lots of our favorite Christmas carols from the hymnal. Of course, we can sing other hymns that day as well. So let's have fun and praise the Lord with some "cool" music this summer!
Combined Church Dutch-Treat at Country Cupboard in July
David's Hebe and St. Paul's Sacramento will have a combined church outing to Country Cupboard in Lewisburg on Saturday, July 18. We will carpool from church at 4pm, and meet in Lewisburg at 5pm. (See sign-up sheet in church.)
UCC Day at Lake Tobias - July 11, 11am-5pm
The Northern Cluster of Churches is again sponsoring a conference-wide family day at Lake Tobias Wildlife Park in Millersburg on Saturday, July 11, from 11am-5pm. We will gather for lunch at the Pavilion C, where we will also enjoy a hymnsing. Tickets will be $10/person (all ages). The ticket price includes a donation to Heifer Project International, which provides livestock and training to needy people around the world. Stay tuned for more information!
Combined Church Worship & Picnic
Be sure to join us on Sunday, July 26, for our annual combined church worship and picnic. This year, the event will be held at the Klingerstown Carnival grounds. Please bring a covered dish to share, a tablecloth, something to drink, eating utensils, and your appetite. And bring some friends! We will provide hotdogs and hamburgers. Worship begins at 10am, with the picnic following afterwards.
Galilean Service in August
In the New Testament, we come across the story of Jesus preaching to the crowds from a boat (see Matthew 13, Mark 4, or Luke 5). A "Galilean" worship service is modeled on this story - it is held along a shoreline, with the message being delivered from a boat to the people seated along the shoreline. Sooo - this year our two churches will combine for worship on August 9, 9am, at the home of Doris Shade, a member of St. Paul's Sacramento. Doris has a beautiful little pond on her property. Bring a lawn chair, dress casually, and enjoy some light refreshments after worship. Come have some fun, and let's see if Pastor Ray has sea-legs enough to stand up in a boat!
Contemporary Worship Service at David's
At our May Council meeting, it was suggested that we try something a little different with worship. Our current worship style is considered "traditional," meaning that we sing familiar hymns, and follow a fairly formal liturgy with some sung responses. In contrast, some churches, particularly some non-denominational and Pentecostal churches, use a worship style that is considered "contemporary," meaning that they sing praise songs (simpler lyrics and melodies, more up-beat, more repetition of words, more instrumental accompaniment), and have a slightly less formal style of worship. Done well, both styles of worship can be uplifting for worshipers. Now don't panic - we?re not going to eliminate our traditional worship in favor of contemporary worship. But - we are going to try a more contemporary format on August 23. And if people like it, we'll try it more often - perhaps once a month. Stay tuned for more details.
