OurMission: Grounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ, our faith community is committed to loving God and serving humanity.
The members of David's UCC participate in a life of worship, mission projects, Christian education, and fellowship activities. We actively support the local food bank and other outreach programs in the local community, and are involved with numerous mission projects in the global community as well. We continue to explore new ways in which we can match our gifts and abilities to the needs of others. Through discipleship, study, stewardship, and active service, we seek to promote the Kingdom of God in our neighborhood and in the world.
At David's UCC, we believe that the message of the grace of God revealed in Jesus Christ is for everyone. A rural faith community located in the Line Mountain region of central Pennsylvania, the people of David's are known for their big heart and wonderful Pennsylvania Dutch hospitality.
Join us for worship, fellowship, study, and service, as together we seek to serve God by serving others.

Upcoming Events
So - What Have Our Youths Been Up To?
Actually, quite a bit. Last summer, our youths helped feed the homeless in Harrisburg, and later in the summer enjoyed kayaking on the Susquehanna River. This past winter, Tom Carl hosted a youth movie night, along with pizza and discussion time. Later this past winter, some youths went skiing at Sawmill. Youths again helped feed the homeless in Harrisburg this spring. In late June, our youths joined Tom Carl to watch the movie Amish Grace (about the grace-filled and forgiving response of the Amish to the 2006 shootings at their schoolhouse in Nickel Mines, PA). And another kayak outing on the Susquehanna River is scheduled for early July. And stay tuned - we will be meeting with youths and their parents at 2pm on July 18 to plan more fun activities, service opportunities, and educational events for the fall.
Social Committee Update
On June 26, we will have our annual All-American Family Picnic. This will be held behind the church, beginning at 5pm - hot dogs, hamburgers, games, etc. Bring a covered-dish to share. All are welcome!
Bethesda Mission Update
Every Friday and Saturday evening throughout the year, small groups of volunteers (5-6 people maximum) go out on Bethesda Mission's mobile van to distribute food and blankets to the poor and homeless in Harrisburg. Several of our youths, as well as several adults, have found this to be a very meaningful experience. Our next opportunity to volunteer is Friday, July 9 - please let Pastor Ray know if you are interested.
Christmas in July Hymnsing
There are so many wonderful Christmas carols, that we never get to sing them all at Christmastime. On July 11, we will have a "Christmas in July" hymnsing. We will sing lots of our favorite Christmas carols from the hymnal. Of course, we can sing other hymns that day as well. So let's have fun and praise the Lord with some "cool" music this summer!
2010 Vacation Bible School at David's - July 17, 9am-3pm
Grounded in Jesus' Parable of the Sower, ReNew: The Green VBS brings together the Bible and environmental stewardship. From tiny towns to huge cities, kids grow in faith as they play, learn, sing, and work toward renewing their congregations and communities. By serving in the community and inviting the community into church, kids demonstrate that being green can be easy, faithful, and fun. Although current threats to our environment can seem scary, ReNew is about hope, opportunity, and service. Kids and congregations lead the way as stewards of the earth. What happens when heads, hearts, and hands are in harmony? Kids grow in faith, have fun, and change the world.
Combined Church Dutch-Treat at Country Cupboard in July
David's Hebe and St. Paul's Sacramento will have a combined church outing to Country Cupboard in Lewisburg on Saturday, July 17. We will carpool from church at 4pm, and meet in Lewisburg at 5pm.
Combined Church Worship & Picnic
Be sure to join us on Sunday, July 27, for our annual combined church worship and picnic. This year, the event will be held at the Hubley Ballfield in Spring Glen (up behind Robert Koppenhaver's construction business on Route 25). Please bring a covered dish to share, a tablecloth, something to drink, eating utensils, and your appetite. And bring some friends! We will provide hotdogs and hamburgers. Worship begins at 10am, with the picnic following afterwards.
Excursion to Sight & Sound to See "Joseph" - August 20, Departing LMHS at 4:45pm
On Friday, August 20, the Ollie Weller Trust Fund will sponsor a bus trip to Sight & Sound in Lancaster to see "Joseph," based on the Genesis story of Jacob's son Joseph and his adventures in Egypt." We will board the bus at Line Mountain High School at 4:45pm (please be prompt), to arrive in time for the 7:30pm show. Please plan on eating ahead-of-time, or bring something to eat on the bus. If you are interested in joining us, please sign up at church (first-come/first-serve). The fund will pay for the bus and show tickets, but each person is asked to contribute $10 toward the overall cost - quite a bargain! Please see Rich Troutman to pay in advance (either cash or checks made payable to "Ollie Weller Sunday School Fund").
Church Fundraiser at Bob Evans, Shamokin Dam
Go eat, and raise money for David's! It's that simple. Get a special coupon from church, and take it with you to Bob Evans in Shamokin Dam anytime (6am-10pm) on Friday, August 27, or Saturday, August 28. Enjoy a nice meal, then when it's time to pay your bill, hand the cashier the coupon. The restaurant will keep track of all the coupons received during those two days, and will send the church a check for 15% of the total. So go have a night out with friends and family, and help our church raise money.
Save the Date - October 10 - Homecoming 2010
On Sunday, October 10, David's will have a special homecoming service, followed by light refreshments. Our guest preacher this year will be the Rev. Michael Price. Stay tuned for more details.
Red Prayer Bowl at David's
Remember that you can always place your written prayer requests in our red prayer bowl, located in the front of the sanctuary. Our Prayer Chain meets monthly to review and pray over all requests. And if YOU feel called to join this prayer ministry - perhaps you have the spiritual gift of intercessory prayer - then please let Charlotte Bingaman or Pastor Ray know, and we will be sure to include you at the monthly prayer gatherings. Note: when the group meets and prays over requests, they are added to our prayer list, and are removed from the prayer bowl.
Teddy Bear Collection Drive for World Surgical Foundation
The World Surgical Foundation Inc. (WSF) serves people in developing or impoverished countries where modern healthcare is not available or is too costly. All around the world, there are children and adults who cannot get the healthcare they need. In many places, the technology is not available. In others it is just too costly. The WSF takes healthcare where it is not otherwise available. From poor villages in developing countries to free clinics in an American city, the WSF makes healthcare accessible. Serving the under-served population in Third World Countries to someday establishing free surgical clinics in the USA - WSF will make surgical care accessible to all!
Here's the local connection for us: the WSF is headed up by Pediatric Surgeon and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Pinnacle Health System in Harrisburg, Dr. Domingo Alvear. And this locally-based, global mission needs our help. The WSF will be traveling to Ethiopia this fall, for the second year in a row, to provide free medical services there. They want to take at least 200 additional plush-toy teddy bears, which provide great comfort to the many young patients they work with. All teddy bears must be brand-new, not used. 12" bears or smaller (e.g. Beanie Babies) are ideal. A collection box has been placed in the back of church for teddy bears. Please help fill the box, and fill a young child's heart.
Blanket Ministry Needs Your Help
You know that David's collects blankets for Bethesda Mission, to distribute to the poor and homeless in Harrisburg, but don't forget that some of our members make blankets for them as well. Jean Graff keeps busy sewing blankets from scrap material, but she needs flannel to line the inside of each blanket. If you have any new or used flannel, or new or used flannel sheets, Jean can put them to good use. Please see her, or mark your donation "for Jean," and leave it in the blanket box in the back of church.
Donations for Elizabethville Clothing Closet - Now Accepting Teenage Clothing
Don't forget that we have an ongoing request from the Elizabethville Clothing Closet for gently-worn/almost new clothing for babies and children. Please leave your donations in the collection box in the back of church.
