                 Our Mission:
To be the United Church of Christ which provides a place of belonging and acceptance with opportunities for ministry and personal growth through Biblical preaching, teaching, prayer, and the study of God's Word for everyone.

At the top of our weekly worship bulletin it says that First Congregational Church is the church that love built, and yet, we know that the church continues to build and grow, and so we now think of ourselves as the church that love is continuing to build. Christian love is at the heart of our ministry and mission here at First Congregational Church. Responding to the love and grace of God, we unite in Christian fellowship for the worship of God and the service of God's children, and seek individually and as a congregation, through the commitment of our physical, mental, financial, and spiritual resources, to grow and to help others to grow in faith, understanding and expression of God's purpose for humankind.                                                                        Our church sanctuary has been recently painted, giving it a fresh new look. Memorial Hall is our function room complete with a full adjoining kitchen. Monthly Public Suppers are held here from September through May. The hall is available to the community as well. Please call our church office to schedule your event. The fee for usage is based upon donations to help pay the cost of utilities.                                                                                                      Presently, we have an interim pastor who has over 20 years experience. Since our founding in 1961, the church has increased in size, physically and in membership. We are a medium sized, still growing church dedicated to the work of Jesus Christ as guided by the Holy Spirit.

EXCITING NEWS!  EXCITING NEWS!  EXCITING NEWS!       Our new Pennywise Thrift Shop is open! Since at least 1971, Pennywise Thrift Shop has been operating at its current location. The shop provides good quality clothing at minimal prices to our community. Wardrobes are provided  free of cost to fire victims and those folks unable to pay. Donations have increased dramatically. The number of customers has also increased. This has resulted in over 3,000 hours donated by volunteers who sort, repair, clean, organize and display the merchandise for sale. Pennywise is open approximately 800 hours during the year.                                                                                 Donations are still needed and may be made to: Pennywise Rebuilding Fund, PO Box 423, Pittsfield, ME  4967.                                               The Pennywise Thrift Shop is truly an asset to our community. Our community is not restricted to Pittsfield -- we reach out to the communities of Detroit, Dexter, Hartland, Palmyra, Plymouth, Stetson and St. Albans, to name just a few. A successful re-building of the Pennywise Thrift Shop will enable us to better serve our neighbors in the greater Pittsfield area. Generally the shop is open on Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to noon.

Other activities and ministries you will find at our church:
Prayer Shawl Ministry Recognizing the power of prayer, our prayer shawl ministry reaches out to those in special need of prayers. Shawls are prayerfully knitted and crocheted, then blessed during morning worship...then they are taken to those who are in need of prayers.   Youth group For all youth in grades 5 through 12. Children's seasonal acitivities for every age are offered throughout the year.                 Public Suppers Once a month September through April (great opportunity for fellowship).
Coffee fellowship Following the morning worship service from September through May.                                                                          Various Bible study opportunities are offered throughout the year.

We welcome you to come and join us at First Congregational Church...the church that love is continuing to build.
