403 S. Jefferson Saginaw, MI 48607 989-754-6565 Fax 989-754-6581 THE CHURCH First Congregational Church has been serving Saginaw since 1857. A downtown, historic church in Italian Romanesque style, FCC is highly regarded by the community and the Michigan Conference of the United Church of Christ. As the only church with a Congregational heritage in the immediate area, members, friends, and visitors come from all corners of Saginaw County. With an active membership of approximately 500, largely well-educated business and professional people, the church is a religious and cultural presence in the city, offering a widely-known music ministry (undergirded by a sixty-seven-rank Skinner organ and seven choirs). Numerous opportunities for Christian service and personal enrichment are also available. We are a strong, healthy urban church seeking an associate minister to deepen and broaden our ministries of evangelism and outreach. Current full-time staff includes the senior minister, minister of music, office manager/secretary, and sexton. Current part-time staff includes the minister of visitation, director of discipleship, church school director, and sextons. THE SAGINAW AREA Saginaw is on Michigan's I-75 corridor, 100 miles north of Detroit, on the Saginaw River (20 miles from Lake Huron's Saginaw Bay). When the Saginaw valley lumber industry began to decline in the early part of the twentieth century, the area's economy expanded heavily into agricultural production and processing (chiefly beans and sugar beets). Ironmaking and the automotive industry now add much to the region; Saginaw has also become a major medical hub, serving the entire "thumb" area of northeastern Michigan. Some 300,000 people live in and around the "Tri-Cities" (Saginaw, Midland, and Bay City). Saginaw offers inexpensive, small-town living with the advantages of a larger metropolitan presence. Delta College (a junior college) and Saginaw Valley State University are nearby. Cultural opportunities include a number of museums, the Saginaw Bay Symphony and the Saginaw Choral Society, several local concert series (instrumental and vocal), a very active community theater, the Japanese Cultural Center, and athletic and entertainment activities at the spacious Saginaw County Event Center. In addition, central and northern Michigan offer four-season opportunities for fishing, hunting, boating, skiing, hiking, and camping. We invite you to worship with us Sunday mornings at 10:30 AM. Sunday School is held at that same time. |
