Our Mission: Making Disciples for Jesus
St. Stephens is well known in the area for its music program and the quality of sermons from its pulpit. Its 9:00 worship service is broadcast on radio station WJMT each Sunday. We have two hours of Church School each Sunday, a three year confirmation program, and a youth ministry called "Jesus 24/7". St. Stephens is also largely responsible for the beginning of the area food pantry and the Merrill Habitat for Humanity group. It works closely with the local abuse shelter (HAVEN), hosts three twelve-step programs, and is a financial and human resource sponsor of the HELP center (HELP center is a building, leased by a board of directors who then rent space at very little rents to non-governmental, non-profit social service agencies - like Big Brothers, Big Sisters, the Food Pantry, and the Community Action Program - an agency providing assistance to the poor). We have recently begun a medical equipment ministry, loaning walkers wheelchairs, and other medical equipment to people from the community at no cost. We operate an annual Vacation Church School, participate in a twice yearly Contemporary Christian Music Concert, and are presently looking into the possibility of opening a church-based pre-school.
